CABA Studies Singapore’s Integrated Model for Biotechnology Research and Commercialization
CABA studied Singapore’s A*STAR, Biopolis and Fusionopolis ecosystem to examine how research, industry, talent and commercialization are integrated within a national innovation model.
As part of its international programme, the Central Asia Biotechnology Association studied Singapore’s model for connecting scientific research, technology development and commercialization through the A*STAR ecosystem, including Biopolis and Fusionopolis.
The delegation visited the research campuses and met with representatives of Singapore’s research and innovation community.
Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) plays a central role in linking public research capabilities with industry and technology development.
Biopolis concentrates biomedical research capabilities, while Fusionopolis brings together engineering, digital technologies and other advanced research fields.
For CABA, particular interest lies in the way these elements operate as parts of a single innovation ecosystem rather than as isolated institutions.
The model demonstrates how research infrastructure, talent development, industry partnerships and commercialization mechanisms can be coordinated to accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to market-ready technologies.
This experience is relevant to the development of biotechnology ecosystems in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, particularly in building research clusters, strengthening technology transfer, attracting international companies and creating conditions for the commercialization of scientific results.
CABA intends to use insights from international biotechnology hubs to support regional cooperation and practical mechanisms connecting science, industry and investment.
